Art Appreciation

About The Program

The Art Appreciation Program is a Livingston town wide program. Historically, the Riker Hill HSA has coordinated parent volunteers to go into the classroom twice a year to present a famous artist, so that children are introduced to different artists from the past and present times and understand how these artists create unique artwork inspired by the background and culture they were brought up in.

 

Parent volunteers will be provided a lesson plan, including background information about the artist. After the presentation, they will lead children in creating artwork in the style of the artist using their own creativity and uniqueness. 

 

This is a great opportunity for parents to get involved in their child's classroom and take part in a lesson. It is easy, fun, and the kids love it! The scheduled projects by grade are as follows (*Art Appreciation artists/projects are subject to change): 

 

Kindergarten

Fall : Alexander Calder - Mobiles

Spring : Jackson Pollock - “Lavender Mist”

1st Grade

Fall : Henri Matisse - "The Purple Robe"

Spring: Song Dong 

2nd Grade

Fall : Takashi Murakami - "Flower Ball"

Spring: Liora Rosenman 

3rd Grade

Fall: Alma Thomas 

Spring: Faith Ringgold - “Tar Beach”

4th Grade

Fall: Salvador Dali - “Persistence of Memory”

Spring: Tyeb Mehta - "Diagonal Series"

5th Grade

Fall: Andy Warhol - Pop Art - "Campbell's Soup"
